Perla Valtierra

Perla Valtierra sublimates everyday life. She trained in industrial design, then studied the art of ceramics at La Cambre, a famous art school in Brussels. “At the time, in Europe, craftsmanship was not so highly valued and we did not understand what I wanted to do. A teacher from La Cambre asked me if I wanted to compete with Ikea, ”she laughs. Misunderstood, she will not finish her master's degree. But she won a ceramic research grant and moved to Kyoto for a year. This trip upsets his perspective. Japan, renowned for the technique of raku ceramics,
praises its artisanal know-how. A point in common with Mexico. “Even if I roll up my sleeves, I see myself more as a designer. My practice incorporates other skills and my way of thinking is different from that of a craftsman, ”she explains. In 2012, it was the climax. She is invited to participate in the Diego Rivera exhibition at the prestigious MoMA. Other satellite projects, she collaborates with the perfumes The Peddler and creates a series of ceramic caps in limited edition.
